SPECTRA is a unique pilot highly sensitive to heading changes quick enough for today's ultra-light boats, powerful enough to steer 80 foot vessels in big quartering seas, yet uses far less electrical power than other pilots.

Unique MOS-FET motor drive electronics replace the most failure prone part of an autopilot with a highly redundant architecture which has demonstrated MTBF of 1,000 years. This drivers high efficiency contributes to the pilots low power consumption.

True proportional rate and position electronics employing a minimum of four complete feedback loops make the pilot steer just like a helmsman even in following seas. Just the right amount of rudder at just the right rate to keep you on course.

SPECTRA adapts to changing wind and sea conditions and boat speed without operator adjustment. It will handle your vessel from bare steerage way to surfing down waves without complicated adjustments. SPECTRA's patented AUTO-TRIM is the most accurate trim system available and automatically holds your vessel on course regardless of trim changes. A magnetometer grade flux gate compass utilizing

 

Alpha's unique HYDRO-STASIS gimbal system, which isolates the sensor from vessel roll and pitch, is included. This system totally eliminates the need to average compass output. This technology unique to Alpha Pilots increases helm response and dramatically improves down wind performance. SPECTRA's "balanced to ground" compass wiring guarantees a maximum isolation from radio interference.

The SPECTRA control system can be connected to any of Alpha's mechanical linear drive units, demand hydraulic pumps, or exclusive proportional spool valve for connection to closed center hydraulic power steering systems.

In it's mechanical linear configuration the pilot becomes a true backup steering system. The unique fully de-clutching drive link attached directly to the rudder stock provides steering in pilot mode without reliance on any other part of the steering system. In the de-clutched mode the pilot is so completely disengaged that there is no detectable friction added to the steering. A wide selection of drive units are available some with hard over times as little as one second, and they feature efficiencies approaching 80%.
